Gotcha DAY September 28, 2005

Gotcha Day

Our group of eleven families got on the bus and headed
our. On the way over we were all excited some crying
and some laughing, as you look at the window you see
mixture of old and new. We say one apartment building
which looked like it had been at one time really nice
but looked destroyed with people living in it, right
next to a nice shopping mall. It just made me realize
how lucky we are to live where we do.

We arrived to the civil affairs office and went up to
the third floor and went into a large room with wooden
benches. The babies had not arrived yet. We waited about twenty minutes and
then the director came in with one of the babies
dressed in yellow. We have been
number three family the whole trip so we new she would
be the third baby given. About five minuets later the
nannies and the rest of the babies came in they sat
across the room from us, I did not see Marielle. Then the
last three babies were brought in and there she was,
Jason recognized her right away. I recognized the toy
I had sent FIRST . They let us take pictures with the
nannies holding the babies. The first two families
went and then it was our turn. They checked our
passports and then she was handed to me, she did not
cry but did sit stiffly in my arms, she went right
to Jason and only would cry if she looked directly into our eyes.
Marielle was dressed in an orange and yellow outfit. She looked
just like her pictures but smaller. I was so happy to see her, she did not cry like
the other babies but you could feel her little body shaking and her
heart beating fast. She was quiet and most likely scared.
We then took our family portraits and then went to
Walmart where we bought formula, diapers and some clothes
as all the clothes I had brought were to big.

Marielle is a daddies girl and warmed up to Jason first, he had
her smiling last night. Mommy she tolerated she does
not cry but she is a DADDY's Girl. She looks around the room if
he is not there. She lights up when she see's him. She wants DADDY to hold her only.
Mom can but only if you hand her to me so
she cannot see my face. I did not expect this but have
read the babies usually prefer one parent over the other.

We met with the director of the Shaoyang institute and arranged
to visit the SWI next week. Some of the
girls have been sick with colds and flu like symptoms
but we have been very blessed so far. Marielle is
HEALTHY as a horse. She has no fevers, no cold
symptoms at all. She has no teeth and only a small
rash. The girls at this SWI have been so well taken
care of and it is obvious that they know the director
and recognize him, he may not do day to day care but
they recognize him and light up and smile.

Marielle was the only baby who slept through the night
last night. We are the only ones who look like we slept.

Tomorrow we get their finding ads, two of the babies
have birth notes but not Marielle. We also later get
a health and growth report with pictures etc. There
is also a special picture from there main nannies. We
have been blessed. All the girls just FIT with their
families, I don't know how CCAA does it but it just is
amazing.
